Babies enjoy and are comforted in consistency and routine, quite opposite to us who always crave for a change and leave no chance to break the monotony of the daily routine. They take pleasure in a day that is much the same as the one before where the daily tasks of diapering, bathing and feeding happen in the same order, same manner and at an unhurried pace.

Routines encourage and allow baby to participate more and more and feel at ease because he knows exactly what to anticipate. This strengthens his sense of security and trust. Hence as far as possible, establish routines and the predictability that follows. Though there will be days when there are new people and novel experiences which can make baby feel giving more physical comfort, talk to him about these new stimuli like “we have your cousins for dinner today.” Or “The door slammed, must be naughty little Aarav.” And while doing this, please don’t doubt on the fact that your baby does not understand what you are saying to him, because for sure he is.
